Water Proof Mattress Pad on Memory Foam Topper?

Do I need a water proof mattress pad on my new quality memory foam topper? I’m just wondering if a mattress pad and foam topper will be okay together or if I even need a mattress pad. The topper came with a zippered cover.
Rich’s answer from Sleep Passport
Hi Beth,
Let’s address using a mattress pad with memory foam first. Then we’ll explore the waterproof issue.
The short answer is, you can just toss some sheets on the memory foam topper the way it is with the zippered cover.
Then again, many people who buy a memory foam topper use a quilted mattress pad they already have and put that on top of the topper.
The important thing here is that the mattress pad should not be too thick or it may affect how the underlying memory foam feels, and reacts, to your body heat.
However, a mattress pad is not going to give complete protection against allergens, stains, liquids, sweat and other body fluids, and dust mites.
For someone who has purchased an inexpensive memory foam topper, they may not care to spend a little extra money for the security of topper protection.
In your case, if you’re not concerned about harming the topper and voiding your warranty, you could simply leave the zippered cover on and put the sheets on.
If you do already have a thin mattress pad, you can experiment with using that, the cover, and the sheets together to see how it feels to you.
Keep in mind that memory foam reacts to air temperature too.
So let’s say it’s hot and humid and the topper feels too soft. The mattress pad may make it feel firmer. During cold weather, the topper may feel too firm. In that case, take the mattress pad off and let your body heat soften things up.
Now let’s consider a mattress pad that’s waterproof
As for a waterproof mattress pad, I think you’re better off putting your money towards a top-notch waterproof mattress protector.
There is a difference. A waterproof mattress pad combines the features of a little extra thickness for comfort with a layer that keeps out liquids, dust mites, allergens, and day to day grime.
But you already have your good quality mattress topper for comfort. So forget the pad.
Protect your topper investment with a waterproof mattress protector that is thin, breathes, and works especially well with memory foam.
The best waterproof mattress protection you can get comes from the amazing Earth-friendly fiber called Tencel®, which is created from Eucalyptus trees.
And if you’re worried about sleeping hot in your new memory foam topper, Tencel® helps regulate temperature.
Where can you get it?
From the number one selling mattress protector in America…
They’ve been making mattress protectors for over 30 years, they sell on five continents, and in 49 different countries.
They’ve developed several unique protectors that contain their trademarked Miracle Membrane.
This membrane works well with memory foam because not only is it waterproof, it also let’s air circulate.
That means that with Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors, you will not lose the memory foam feel that your topper provides.
And…• You get an allergy mattress protector
• Dust mites are blocked out.
• Liquids of any kind are repelled, including urine
• It’s comfortable and cool
• They stretch to fit over the mattress and topper
• You can take it off and wash it over and over again.
Be sure to follow the laundering instructions they provide and you’ll be all set for years. This keeps your topper, sheets, and sleeping environment clean and fresh.
Plus, here’s something really important about toxic chemicals
I looked into this and the final good bit of news is that Protect-A-Bed products are Oeko-Tex certified.
I’ve stated more times than I can remember that when buying a memory foam topper or memory foam mattress it’s essential to make sure the foam is free of hazardous materials.
The same advice applies to mattress pads and protectors.
After all, no one wants to be sleeping on a vat of chemicals and sucking in toxic vapors all night.
Oeko-Tex and CertiPUR are the two trusted testing companies for making sure consumers are getting non-toxic foam, and furniture, free of hazardous materials.
The fact that Protect-A-Bed products are Oeko-Tex certified is a big deal if you’re worried about keeping your home environmentally green and safe.
On top of that, there’s the Earth-friendly Tencel® fabric you’ll find in the Luxury Mattress Protector at Protect-A-Bed.
Here’s a big final tip:
One thing I like to do is see what the top independent mattress and memory foam companies recommend for waterproof mattress protectors.
The reason is because they seem to have a better reading on the pulse of people who use their toppers and mattresses. They know what works, what people want, and what people don’t like.
Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors come highly recommended.
Is Protect-A-Bed perfect?
Heck no. I have not found one single mattress protector company that satisfies everyone.
There’s one lady on Amazon screaming scam about every Protect-A-Bed protector. That’s like yelling FIRE in a movie theater. It scares everyone off. Maybe she works for a competitor?
Then on the other hand, the housekeeping manager of the luxurious 5-Star Grand Hyatt Dubai uses Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors in the hotel and highly recommends them.
All I know is you don’t get to be the best-selling mattress protector company in the United States by scamming people.
