Is it comfortable to put a 3 inch memory foam topper on top of a 8 inch memory foam mattress?
Hi Mike,
Interesting question. There are two reasons I can think of as to why you would want to put a memory foam topper on a memory foam mattress.
1) You're not happy with the comfort of your mattress.
2) You are satisfied with the mattress yet are hoping the memory foam bed topper will give you even more comfort.
The biggest consideration is if your memory foam mattress is still in good shape. Keep in mind, the topper will conform to whatever it sits on top of. If your memory foam mattress is old, indented, and sags, your topper may too.
However, if your memory foam mattress is still firm and flat, there's no reason the topper won't work quite well. And a 3 inch 4lb density memory foam topper can be quite comfortable.
Also, your underlying foam mattress will not heat up because your body heat will be kept from it by the topper. The effect of that is the memory foam in the mattress will stay cool, and hence should provide a good firm surface for the topper.
As for where to get a 3 inch 4 lb density topper? It depends.
If you're on a budget, take a look at some of the memory foam products at Amazon. For example, here's a 3 inch, 4lb density queen topper.

Thanks for writing. Good luck with your shopping.
